The amount of memory in each laptop is different and this is what determines the power of the processor in each. Laptops use the more advanced types of memory such as DDR, DDR2, DDR3, DDR SAM, SIMM, DIMM, SODIMM, SDRAM, Dual Channel DDR and EDO. In case you need to upgrade your laptop memory, locate the memory slots on the underside of the computer. Most laptops will have between 2 and 3 slots but there are some with only one. Those with limited slots are limiting and require that you buy higher amounts of memory, either 2GB or 3GB. One thing you must know is that some laptops are locked and can only be opened up by a skilled technician. If you try looking for the memory slots but can’t find them, it is probable that it can only be handled by a technician. Self-installation of memory upgrades cannot be made on such laptops.
Always check with the manufacturer’s manual for the maximum amount of memory the laptop can hold so that you do not exceed this limit which is clearly outlined. If there is a standard memory it will also be indicated. Don’t attempt to overload your computer with excess RAM beyond the stipulated maximum.
